Nestled in the heart of Al Rayyan, Education City, which started a few years ago with just one school, now welcomes students from over fifty different countries. Education City offers tremendous educational opportunities, with several Ivy League schools and institutions such as Northwestern University, University College London, and Georgetown University Qatar, among others.
In order to really get to know Education City, let’s find out how it all started. In 1995, when the Qatar Foundation was established by Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani and Her Majesty Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, its creation was aimed at achieving economic stability through innovations in the ‘education and research, by “unlocking human potential”. The city’s mission also contributed to Qatar’s Vision 2030, aiming to build a knowledge-based economy and the preservation of culture.
Education City was inaugurated in 2003 with the opening of the Qatar Foundation’s first university, the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar. Subsequently, eight other universities, including the local Hamad Bin Khalifa University, were established there. Its reputation and presence have since evolved and Education City now embodies academic and scientific excellence. Its graduates have acquired the skills and had the opportunity to take on leadership roles and tackle global challenges, such as global warming.
Through the recent construction of the Education City stadium and the various initiatives in which it has participated, the city is on the way to becoming an even greener and more sustainable place.
