The Temple Mount is a sacred site for followers of all three Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The Dome of the Rock, an Islamic shrine built on the site in 691, is considered one of the holiest places in Islam. For Jews, the Temple Mount is where the First and Second Temples once stood. Christians believe that Jesus Christ visited the site during his earthly ministry and that it was from here he directed his disciples to preach throughout Israel.
